SOP Wheels
Rivian R1 launched with four production wheels. The base 21" cast wheel Aero Wheel by Matt Braun and supplied by Enkei and cover by Zanini, the 22" cast Performance Wheel by Steve Goodrich and supplied by Rosta, 20" forged Adventure (SG) developed from the original show truck wheels, and 20" Adventure II by Paul Hoste and supplied by Hongxin.
2018 Show Vehicles
It was nights and ‘workends’ from the second I started in October 2017. Countless wheels, vision projects to model, and the birth of the R1 and the final form of Rivian brand itself. It was an adventure.
I was responsible for the styling surface of the R1-T early on solidifying with Luke Mack. the direction for a number of features in 20-50 mm move phase. As our team grew from 5 to 14 and we went from a warehouse in Livonia to our brand new studio in Plymouth, I was working on wheels for the show cars and the interior door card.
2019-2020 Wheel Prototypes
In 2019 there was a second R1-T show vehicle produced and it sported new 20" forged adventure wheels by Paul Hoste. For the 2020 Rebelle Rally the near production ready truck had some near production ready 20" Adventure wheels developed from the original concept (Steve Goodrich). Photo credit: PuppyKnuckles
Amazon
With Amazon brought a lot of excitement and inertia, RPV surface design was done over daily zoom calls through the pandemic. I worked inside and out making data for the bulkhead door assembly and parts of the passenger bulkhead and door handle. I learned another process with the wheels, making our first steel wheels with supplier Maxion. The side mirrors were the hardest project overall with challenging CMF and number of hardware components and features.
